Marlatt selected for Leadership Institute of Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana

Marlatt, LeslieLeslie Marlatt, assistant director of success advising at Manchester University, is among those selected to participate in the 2022 Leadership Institute of the Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana (YLNI).

“I wanted to be part of YLNI because I wanted to grow personally and professionally,” Marlatt said. “I am excited to connect with other young professionals in northeast Indiana and develop skills as I go into the next part of my professional career.”

Building support networks is a key strategy in her work. Success advisors implement plans to help keep students on track and prevent challenges from becoming insurmountable.

“I have a quote from Michelle Obama in my office that says, ‘Nobody gets through college on their own.’ This perfectly sums up what I do – I ensure students don’t go through Manchester alone,” Marlatt said. “I am here for all of the moments – the exciting ones, the scary ones, the confusing ones, the happy ones, the frustrating ones, the thankful ones. I meet students where they are at and I get to develop intentional and meaningful relationships with students to ensure student success. It’s really cool!”

YLNI’s Leadership Institute connects young professionals with peers and their communities as they gain career skills.

Through hands-on instruction, small-group activities, personal reflection and sharing, participants are given the opportunity to develop their leadership potential. Topics range from personality recognition and communication effectiveness to board stewardship and diversity in the workplace.

The program includes a kick-off event in the winter, six all-day sessions, and a graduation celebration in May.

Marlatt, Manchester Class of 2013, is also co-advisor of the Student Education Association and Manchester Dance Marathon. She is currently serving as the adjunct of Educ 465, educational studies internship, and has taught the Exp 101 course, My Manchester Experience.

She lives in North Manchester with her husband, Adam, who also graduated from Manchester in 2013, and 3-year-old twins, Aubree and Adalyn.
